Biography
Dr. Prabir Chaudhury is the President of Education and Consulting LLC. He is a Metallurgical Engineer with a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, CA. His expertise is in the areas of physical and mechanical metallurgy with extensive background in metal additive manufacturing, high temperature deformation, including thermomechanical processing of metals, alloys, and metal matrix composite materials. He has more than 30 years of experience in materials, process, and product development with a strong emphasis in research and development. He has developed new metal Additive Manufacturing alloys, innovative metal processing methods, and novel products for Aerospace,Defense, Automotive, and other industriesusing his deep knowledge in materials science and engineering.
Currently, Dr. Chaudhury is engaged in advancing materials and processing technologies for Metal Additive Manufacturing applications in Defense, Aerospace, Automotive, consumer goods, and other industries. As the Technical Fellow at Divergent 3D Technologies Corporation, He developed and patented new AM materials and processing technologies for the automotive industry. He worked internationally with AM raw material producers to improve raw material quality and production yieldwith a three-fold decrease in raw material price and five-fold increase in AM productivity. He also worked closely with Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) machine developers and implemented a production line capable NDI system for factory environment.
Prior to Divergent 3D, Dr. Chaudhury was the Global Technical Director at Exova (now Element Materials Technology) providing technical leadership for its 70 metals laboratories in 33 countries. He led the Additive Manufacturing testing and consulting business by defining technical standards for testing, inspection and qualifications. He also promoted AM and implemented best practices for advancement of metal AM in Aerospace, Defense, Medical, and other industrial sectors across the globe. In this role, He defined R&D and technical strategies, drove development and industry acceptance of technical standards and methods, and functioned as a critical bridge between technical and business leaders.Dr. Chaudhury has been working closely with the global Additive Manufacturing industry through his participation in ASTM F042 and SAE AM committees, NIST, America Makes, FAA, and ISO collaboration efforts and working with OEMs, AM manufacturers, machine builders. Dr. Chaudhury has a strong background in materials and process engineering of light metals, including Ti, Al, Mg, and other metals and their alloys. He has extensive teaching experience at universities, and at professional level in the industry, under US Defense programs, and through ASM International
